Re: Who have you told about your crying fetish in real life?

Yes. Very true! It shows way more vulnerability and  (in my opinion at least ) intimacy

Re: Who have you told about your crying fetish in real life?

I'm on my second marriage. I wouldn't have DREAMED of telling my first wife, but my current wife is the best partner a dacryphiliac (Is that the term?) could hope for. She was on a business trip out of the country a few months back, and stubbed her toe so hard she bawled like a baby. Once she recovered her composure, she could hardly wait to call me and tell me about it, because she knew that I would get off hearing about it. She's always on the alert to pass on observations of other people crying that she knows I'll enjoy. When I joke around about how "sick" I am, she always says, "You're not sick! Weird maybe, but everybody's weird in some way."

It’s pretty sweet that your wife is willing to accommodate you like that. How did she find out about your dacryphilia?

Re: Who have you told about your crying fetish in real life?

I can answer this question now. Few months ago, I told my secret for the first time to a psycho-sexual therapist. She congratulated me for being brave enough to talk about it, as I was clearly stressed out and embarrassed. And then she kicked me out. No, really. She said she didn’t have skills enough to help me, and that I should see a specialist. I was quite annoyed as I hadn’t gone to her seeking help for my dacryphilia - I just mentioned it so that she’d know all the facts.

I think it creeped her out. Though it was a free service and according to her, the NHS funded services simply didn’t train her for the likes of this.

I would've thought from the title of the type of therapy it should be exactly what she was trained for. Hmm

Waaaat??  I am so pissed off on your behalf!  And now I question whether I should tell any therapists I am not paying for with my own money about my fetish.  I think I already know the answer -- not worth the risk!  But I also don't feel the need to tell one anyway, so I'll be alright.  Still, I would be so upset in your shoes!  What training does she have, do you know?  A Master's degree?

Re: Who have you told about your crying fetish in real life?

How many times did you see this woman before you opened up to her about your crying fetish? I don't believe you need a special training to deal with a special problem of a patient what ever nature it might seem. The most important thing you are creating as any kind of therapist with any patient is a stable professional relationship you can use as basis for the following work together. I think it is very sad she shocked you and gave you the feeling this fetish is something you can't talk to a therapist, because quite likely you won't talk about it any time soon after this negative experience. I brought up the subject of dacryophilia to different professionals and I didn't find one who was familiar with it. Anyhow I believe a professional should be able to deal with anything during therapy as long as it doesn't become sexual like crossing the line, if you know what I mean. Was the therapist still young?

Not enough eye rolls in the world to respond to that.
