not too much compared with the fact that the "dacryphilia" wikipage was at least readed 3970 times in june 2012 = in average 130 x/day ^^

maximum in june was by the way 217 visitors on 1.6

source:  http://stats.grok.se/en/201206/dacryphilia

The daily  6-10 unique visitors are those who come from the wikipedia link or is it the total number of unique visitors / day who visit this page?

There is no official record, according to the Guinness website, but here are some less-official results

A friend of mine is Muslim and actually practising this Ramadan, but I never heard that there is anything with crying about it.  He only takes part in rituals like renouncing food or drinks before sunset, also he has to go at mosque almost every day but perhaps I should ask him...

My wife holds a personal record for me, she holds the longest continuous crying duration I've witness - she cried (tears falling) for over 5 hours - caused by hormone changes after giving birth 5 days before.
She also holds the most tears shed in a short period of time (I'd say a minute but I didn't have a stopwatch) that I've witnessed - although I don't have a direct count the tears were dripping like a tap from her eyes ever second or so during very intense crying.

hm this seem to be really extremaly much...^^  just imagine a person shed tears in that intensity (you say one tear/ second... from both eyes or a teardrop from each single eye?) and now let's imagine this for 5 hours...  This would be more then 1 whole liter of tear-water o.O  (TPM rate 120 = 4ml X 300 =  1,2L of tears)

but I guess it was not that long + in a such intensity (?)

I'd love to be the judge on all record attempts  :o)

I guess the problem here is someone would always claim to have cried harder, longer and shed more tears in private than in front of a person viewed as a qualified judge. It would probably have to be qualified with a statement like 'most emotional tears shed in 10 minutes' or 'most tears shed in 10 minutes from fake (acting style) crying' - or something like that!

I agree a such study is probably not too easy way to realize, especially because everyone cries different, but what about a competition like: "crazy record attempt - we search the person who can cry the longest time and shed the most tears in front of a judge/camera" (of course with the optional possibility to stay anonymous for the public),  the winner goes to earn 10.000$ cash. I'm sure a lot of people who cry a lot or have a 'talent' for it would participate...

I don't know if someone here can answer this question or ever has thought about this but do you think a such record exist?

I was a little curious and searched for different records a real long time but obviously could't find anything toward that... (tears/crying)

although I really did find everything else what is imaginable!

any suggestions?

I have 2 further suggestions for your Questionnaire when it's ok...

What is the difference between the last 2 options?  and what is the definition of "streaming" or "steady flow"?

I can imagine that everybody could specify this in a different way...

maybe I would rather specify sorts of additional scales:  for example 1 to 5 tears, 5-10, 10-20 ... so every participant (approximately) has the same imagination of it...

[b]16)

Here I miss more options too. The face can also be distorted without trembling...(for example)

[b]17)

same thing:  for example my eyes remain usually clear, and the face don't really get red or puffy but the nose can run like crazy... Also I don't see a real connection between the 2 items?

Sorry to just be joining this conversation now, I've been abroad and have been busy with other things.
BadCr, I'm interested in the way you make yourself cry. About how often do you do this? For how long? How many tears do you shed, and do you wipe them away? Do you ever sob, or is it just tears? Thanks, and sorry for the barrage of questions!

good question: The method I use is practically simple to use and probably everybody can learn. Basically it comes from simple Trataka practise which is a yoga cleaning exercise but I mostly combine it with some own tricks -for example: some visualisations to trigger more emotions, special eye and muscle movements etc... so as result -not only- more tears fall...

I estimate I do this about 1 time a month in average  (however there were times -especially in my youth- when I did this almost every day or let's say at least one time a week).

for how long?  that's always different:  In average I do it for maybe 5-10 minutes
but theoretical I can go as long as I want. My maximum is probably more then 4 hours (when I had hard times, felt bad tensions, but also to experience how far I could go with that etc...)  after that time I usually had no more enough tears, an ugly headache and also was too tired to go on...

amount of tears:  I would say it really depend about how you specify "tear", how long and hard I cry, but also things like  the angle how I turn my head while doing it . ^^

When I drink enough liquid (and alcohol) before and have enough sadness intus the amount can become quite much...

at least I can remember  producing real puddles of *water* from it (no joke) especially when additional strong emotions involved.  and it's for 90% tears but can lead to sob and everything else if the trigger is the right...

Oh, and I'll just add in my little observations here since they don't really merit a thread of their own. I'm in Berlin now, and as some of our European members may be aware, Germany just got shut out of the football final by Italy. I was out in the street watching the game on a big screen, and as the Italians started scoring, I was hoping to see some German tears (since they're so rare!). I didn't see any in person, but on the jumbotron the cameramen were quite fond of finding crying fans and focusing on them, male and female.

hope I'm allowed to ask this question but what are you doing in Berlin? ^^

Witnessed a very good female crying observation this evening whilst returning home on the train. I've tried to remember this in as much detail as possible and notice as many of the various preferences of forum member as I could. This observation is one of the best I've seen (from a stranger) in many a year!

I've seen this woman several times, it's amazing how many people you recognise day in day out when travelling to and from work. In the main she travels with what appears to be her husband but occasionally she is on the train already (which was the case tonight) - she must get on a stop earlier sometimes. She is very attractive in my opinion - white, slim, shoulder length blonde hair, early thirties, smooth clear skin and lovely big electric blue eyes.
The times I've seen this woman I've often wonder what she would look like crying - mainly due to the fantastic colour of her eyes - well today my wishes came true!

A first saw the husband on the platform alone, as the train came in I looked into the carriage and saw her sitting in what is there usual spot - which is quite private as it is two seats side by side which face the backs of the seats in front - other seats face each other in a set of four. She was sitting nearest the window - and immediately thought it a bit odd that she was looking directly out of the window and not onto the platform to see if her husband was there.

As we got on I immediately noticed she looked upset - the arrival of her husband appeared also to result in her losing her battle to hold the tears back. Thinking quickly I delibarately picked a seat that would give me the best view of her - it was a direct if narrow gap between the two seats in front of them - her husband by this time has sat beside her.

I first noticed her chin tremble and her mouth contort as she obviously starting talking to her husband (I had headphones on so did not hear any of their conversation) presumably she was tell him what was wrong - I did
