From the old BBC series starring Jeremy Brett as Holmes.  At about 8:25, Holmes displays unexpected tenderness by covering the weeping maid's hand with his own.  This is actually one of my earliest "crying/comforting" memories in a film/TV show; I first saw this episode when I was 12 or 13 years old:
