I just finished a wonderful book called "Enza" (by Kristy K. James), about a small town in Michigan being devastated by the Spanish influenza epidemic of 1918.  The book's characters are vividly drawn and you really care about them, and then the disease starts killing people off.  Understandably, there is a LOT of crying, much of it from the four main, male characters.  If this were ever made into a movie, it would be Crying Lovers heaven. The casting announcements would have to read: "must have ability to break down and sob and cry copious amounts of tears". 
Honestly, though, it is a very moving book that I highly recommend.
