Squonk, Our Lady of the Font of Male Crying Clips, has helpfully provided and given permission to post both of Michael Fassbender's crying scenes in The Counselor. The second one is hard to find.
Thank you Squonk!

Thanks, Pheobe and Squonk!
The scene in the car is one of my favorites.
And I had been hoping that someone would post a higher quality clip of that second sequence. Very intense! I actually found it kind of hard to watch. But I did like the sobbing sounds near the end and the way he struggles to catch his breath.
It also reminded me of the way Jennifer Lawrence cries in the clip from Mockingjay that Flatter recently posted. It's kind of interesting to compare crying styles across genders. Fassbender is one of the few male lip-curlers I can think of -- it definitely heightens the impact of his crying scenes.

You're right, the second scene is hard to watch. It's the perfect epitome of the "Ugly Cry", and all the more wrenching for it.

Michael is a great crier. But one thing that turns me off is snot and/or spit and drool dripping. I love the sobbing, but I could've done without the saliva/snot thing. Hahaha....David Tennant is famous for that...as much as I loved seeing him cry in Single Father, I was so turned off by the spit.
Actually, when my husband cries, another thing that turns me off (not that I am turned on sexually when he cries, btw, I just love how he cries when he does), is when he has a coughing fit right in the middle of it. I know he can't help it, but I am like, 'no! come back here and let me hold and comfort you some more!' LOLOL.....

I'm not a fan of the snot/spit either, but I admit it does add a bit of reality to the scene. And I suspect the snot/spit may also be a reaction to whatever chemical agent the actor is using to produce "tears". I know Harrison Ford's trick was a small bottle of onion juice.

I don't mind snot/spit; in fact it often enhances the sound. To me it's a sign that the actor is willing/able to really go to where the scene needs it.

I completely agree with you about the sound. And although I found the second scene a little too over-the-top on the first viewing, it's starting to grow on me -- especially if I listen to it more than I watch it. Weirdly, its the shaking near the beginning of the clip that put me off more than the spit, there's something there that struck me as a little bit forced or awkward.
In general, I tend to be okay with spit -- and probably snot -- in crying scenes if I already find the actor attractive, but I'm less forgiving of it if I don't.

See, while I'm not into snot and spit in and of themselves, in a crying scene they add realism, as I do a lot of crying and often get a stuffy/runny nose.
