Since I keep referring to it, I thought I should actually post my favorite crying scene of all time. I absolutely love the way Neeson sobs, and how the onlookers in the scene appear to empathize with him, and gather around him to comfort him:

I fell in love with Liam after seeing him in this. It is such a guttural, deep sobbing. I do wish we could have seen his face, however. What is heartbreaking to me is to know that, when he lost his wife Natasha Richardson, that he must've cried like this many, many times. It actually hurts my heart to think and know that. How I wish I could've been there to comfort him.

Schindler's List came out when I was in high school, and shortly after it was released on video we watched it in a class. When I saw Schindler's crying scene I knew I would never forget it. Now I believe it has the most convincing sobbing I've ever heard from an actor in a movie, and I also love how everyone kind of gives Schindler a group hug, with the one woman (his wife, I think) actually rocking him back and forth. Needless to say, I myself can't watch the scene without at least tearing up and at most, crying openly.
Natasha Richardson's early death was indeed a terrible thing, especially as it would seem to have been so preventable. I hope Liam is doing better now; I'm sure he has had friends around to comfort him through the years. I know Ralph Fiennes (Amon Goeth in Schindler's List) attended Natasha's viewing and funeral, and I like to imagine him expressing his condolences in a dignified yet caring way.

Hey White Tulip, I think the most convincing sobbing I have ever heard or seen was Jesse on Breaking Bad. Here is the link for it in case you haven't ever seen it. Enjoy!

Whoa, yeah, that was very realistic sounding. It was a different kind of sobbing than Neeson's -- more hysterical.

I'd once read that for some actors, the best way to fake sob was to cover their faces and laugh. On re-watching, Neeson does sound a bit "laugh-y".
Interesting thought - if someone played clips of boisterous laughter vs. sobbing, would we be able to tell, really?

I'm not sure, but I have always tended to think that acting laughter convincingly must be even harder than acting crying convincingly.

Also actors fake yawning or sneezing etc tend to stick out obviously. Interesting to find the line between what's "faking" and just making yourself do it for real with all these things (crying, laughing, yawning etc)
