Crying on Airplanes

I recently came across this article about the -- apparently fairly widespread -- phenomenon of crying on airplanes.

http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2013/10/why-we-cry-on-planes/280143/

Whether from stress, lack of sleep, boredom or some other mix of factors, people who rarely cry on land find themselves completely breaking down over sappy, in-flight movies and TV shows that probably wouldn't affect them under normal circumstances.

I haven't noticed anything like this first hand, but I'll definitely be on the look out for crying passengers next time I fly.  Maybe I'll watch a sad movie; I'd be interested to see if it works on me.

Has anyone here had any experience with this?  Have you ever cried or teared up on a plane or noticed someone else crying?

Unfortunately, the only ones I've ever seen or heard crying on planes were all under the age of six.

LOL!

Seriously now, I think it might also be the fact that fear of flying is so prevalent:  whether or not people realize it or want to admit it, they feel generally more emotionally vulnerable on an airplane.

That's been my experience too, so far. But a girl can dream.

It would be so nice to be seated next to a handsome stranger and see him be sheepishly moved to to tears by some silly romantic comedy.

On a related note: I found this cute video of Jake Gyllenhaal talking about crying during a nature documentary on an airplane: http://teamcoco.com/video/jake-gyllenhaal-cried-on-an-airplane-watching-bears

Re: Crying on Airplanes

Interesting thread.  I recently came across this quote from actor John Simm (a lot more on him later) and was kind of wondering what he meant.  Now I see it's a thing.
"I watch films on flights, but you tend to get a bit over-emotional in the air.  So you end up crying a lot."
(I love the British tendency to use "you" when they really mean "I".)
