Interesting article I found

This is an article about the website that is linked in the links section - webcamtears. I don't know what prompted then to write an article about a random tumblr group, but it has a somewhat disapproving tone:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/29/webcam-tears-girls-upload_n_1387820.html

Now I want to draw your attention to one of the comments:

"Dacryphilia wasn't mentioned in the piece (shocking) but it is indeed a fetish with associations to the sadomasochists. Regardless of why they are doing this I find it disturbing. Interesting post below mentioning Japan as the suffering of females (psycho-emotional, physical, social and sexual) as something that can be both aesthetically beautiful and sexually arousing to the males can be found deeply ingrained in the culture. And yes, what all that implies is absolutely horrifying."

Now, I don't necessarily blame people for being disapproving of someone who becomes aroused by crying. However, why is it that people (like the guy I quoted) assume that it is something that only males have, and that it is rooted in a culture of misogyny? Most of the active posters here are female. I would even hazard a guess that about half the members are female. Why is it not more apparent that this paraphilia is shared by both sexes?

Re: Interesting article I found

I thought I read somewhere (Wikipedia, I think?) that paraphilias (or was it fetishes?) are considered to be almost exclusively male, but I think I also remember reading (perhaps on Wiki again) that the BDSM culture is pretty much an equal split between men and women -- which sounds contradictory, I know!  I guess I could look all this up, but I'm lazy.

In any case, I can see how people would assume all crying fetishists must be sadists (I wonder what the actual split is between male and female sadists and masochists... think of all the dominatrixes!)

Maybe it's not more apparent that females are into this fetish because the porn industry doesn't cater to females.  Sure, there may be some romance novels out there with very well-worn crying scene pages, but you'd never hear about that (except on forums like this).

Ah this is about that one site I found. Actually I saw the comment too, I remember.

There's something similar here: http://www.hongfire.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-10327.html

It's probably not obvious and assumed to be predominantly male because the popular observation is of girls crying in japanese cartoons, so they think it's based on superiority of men. Probably they didn't check this forum, and even if they did they would probably not check too carefully anyway - like they would think woundedpuppy is male, for example.

There is also the assumption that everyone who likes crying wants to torture another person into crying, which is not necessarily true.

Re: Interesting article I found

here is something even better:

one German description I found...

original:  http://www.venus-community.net/cms/lexikon_entry/entry_id/169/Dacryphilie.html

short translation (what this text aprroximately say):

the word is a term used by the BDSM scene.
The tears are triggered from pain. The dacryphiliac person creates physical pain to the partner, for example using a whip.
also crying persons in public for example children are a turn on for dacryphiliac persons.  That's because many dacryphiliacs are often hanging around kindergartens, schools or play areas (...)

or in other words:  a dacryphiliac is nothing else as a pre-child molester (after this description!) who like to cause (physical) pain to others -especially little children-

But at least the article clarifies that it is not an illegal thing though if  the enjoying is consensual...

too bad that venus-community is a really large community with millions of visitors / day and it may be the only description a lot of people there ever get...
