Just had this idea as I woke up so wanted to write it out
———————————————
"Have you ever loved someone so much it made you emotional?" he asked her as he had his fingers intertwined in hers.
She paused to think about it. "Emotional in what way? Love is an emotion in and of itself."
They were sitting on the floor of his room facing each other and holding hands.
"Just *emotional*, you know?" He had an unreadable expression on his face.
"Honestly, no, I don't think so. I've been in love but it was an exciting feeling, not really emotional. Why?"
He paused and looked down at their fingers, seeming deep in thought. Finally, he spoke, his voice barely above a whisper. "I just... I've been in love before, or so I thought. But it never felt like this. It felt more superficial in a way. Like I was just looking for a way to not be lonely and so were they."
He paused for a moment, his breath began to tremble. He had his face down so she couldn't see his eyes but she swore she saw a tear. "This feels different. It feels *so real*. And it's completely overwhelming."
He was baring his soul, and he was never one to hide his emotions. He figured he might as well show her everything.
He looked at her, and finally she saw the tears swimming in his blue eyes. He smiled as a tear barely hung onto his eyelashes. "I love you so much." Finally, a tear slowly trickled down his cheek. "This is an incredibly emotional experience for me."
The floodgates opened as if on cue. Multiple tears slowly made their way down the outer and middle parts of his cheeks. She climbed in his lap and reached out to touch his cheek with her outer fingers. Almost as if on cue, more tears made their way down.
He looked down embarrassed, "I'm sorry, this is weird. Loving someone shouldn't make you cry."
"It's not weird, it's beautiful and I love you too."
He looked up at her as the tears seemed to come faster. "You do?" His lips began to curl up as he pulled her in her a hug and buried his face in her shoulder.
The tears soaked through and she felt the wetness. She gently hugged him and ran her fingers through his hair. At that, he seemed to melt as he gently sobbed and squeezed her into him.
She pulled away and held her hands to his cheeks, thumbing the tears away as he shut his eyes and sobbed openly. Tears slipped down his neck and fell off his chin. She gave up trying to dry his tears and let them flow freely. Letting them flow seemed to invite him to cry more deeply.
After a few moments he took a deep breath and gave her a kiss, his tears drying on his cheeks. His eyes were a little puffy. He intertwined his fingers in hers again. "Our love is beautiful and I never expected it to make me cry, but I'll be honest, it's made me cry a few times alone and I expect to be emotional for a while."
She kissed him and wiped a stray tear currently making its way down his cheek. "Then let it out, you can cry, whether it's love or pain or anything else. Let me love you through your tears."
He nodded as fresh tears fell. Off and on throughout the day, she'd notice a wave of tears in his eyes when he told her he loved her. Tears are is his expression of love and she's ready to accept them.
