For some reason, I cry in my sleep. A lot. Like, at least once a month. It's weird because everyone else I've asked has never had that happen to them, yet it happens to me all the time. Last night, I had a dream that there was a puppy that was poorly treated. It was really sweet and I bonded with it. It would lick my hand, snuggle with me, etc. I was forced to watch it slowly die everyday because I was staying the week at the place it was at. There was nothing I could do for it and it broke my heart. I didn't see it die thankfully, but I remember I just broke out crying while playing with the puppy and seeing how weak it was. When I woke up, there were actual tears running down my face. This has happened to me ever since I was a little kid. Has this ever happened to you?

This has never happened to me. As a child I've cried over nightmares, but that was after waking up.

Never happened to me but I am intrigued

It's happened to me a few times with bad dreams, but it's not common.

I've never woken up with tears on my face, but I have woken up and started crying directly after. It's been a long time. The last time was in high school. I had a very vivid dream that my mom was dying. She was in bed and said to me "It's time for Jesus to come take me" and in the dream I started sobbing and begging her not to go. I woke up shortly after and I wasn't crying, but as soon as I oriented to my surroundings and processed it (a few seconds) I started crying really hard. I knew it was only a dream, but the emotion was still real to me at that moment.

It has never happened to me. Sometimes other things happen during a dream like getting up, having to go to the toilet, but never crying myself.
I posted somewhere about an old friend of mine crying during a dream and learned a few days later, that his mom had passed away...

I'm very intrigued, it happened to me many times in the past. And i used to have a dream with a dog that died in real life later on, i would cry a lot in my dream and then wake up with tears down my cheeks just like you.
Once even my grandma told me i was sighting in my sleep and she noticed i was crying, she thought i was awake back then ..but i was crying in my sleep.

Woah, holy irony. Just the other night I dreamed that my papa was dying and I was just absolutely sobbing uncontrollably. Even after waking up I would cry throughout the day thinking about it. It had a lot of emotion to it. That's the beauty of dreams.

Historically I don't think I've cried in my sleep but I have a few times recently... On one occasion I woke up to find my face wet, tears had been flowing from the corners of my eyes to my ears - strangely although fresh tears were making my face wet my face felt tight and dry! I could feel that tears had ran down the side of my nose and across my nose - my pillow was also damp so I must have been moving about a bit in my sleep as tears fell. I continued to cry for a while after I woke up.
My wife also told me that in the middle of the night she woke and thought she heard me crying - short gasping breaths - she turned on the bedside light and noticed tears leaking out of my closed eyes and rolling down my face. I am completely unaware of this, but she tells me she watched for a good 10 minutes gently wiping / kissing the odd tear away and letting others flow down my face. She says she felt quite moved and had tears in her own eyes - but she tells me they never fell down her face. Even before she told me about this in the morning I noticed I had white dry crust marks at the corners of my eyes making a line away from my eyes - salt I guess? I've had this a few times, wonder if I've cried during the night and nobody - not even me noticed!!

That happened to me, as well, with a dream that my boyfriend had died. It was crazy because I had never understood how people in movies could be so upset that they just straight-up collapsed. I thought it was overacting, but in my dream, when I got the news about my boyfriend, I collapsed, and even though it was only a dream, I finally understood. Oddly enough, it wasn't the first time I had experienced an emotion for the first time in a dream. Anyway, that ream, too, stuck with me all day. It was probably the first time since I was a kid that a nightmare made me cry even though I knew it was just a dream.
