Death Stranding - Video game where tears seem to play an integral role

I used to play a lot of video games and I still check out trailers and stuff for new games even though I don't play as much. One game that's been receiving a lot of hype in the past year is called Death Stranding, which features Norman Reedus from the Walking Dead. It's yet to be released, but based on the trailers, it seems like tears have a big role to play in this game, which I find very interesting. The last couple of trailers show tears running down the cheeks of a female character, and there are tears from Norman Reedus too. Interestingly, the tears are not emotional tears, but tears caused by an allergic reaction to something. Here are the crying bits from the trailers (the CGI tears are certainly not as realistic as I'd like yet, but it's still decent and maybe in a few years we'll have very realistic CGI tears).

https://youtu.be/rP3UngLFou4?t=270 (female, the actress is apparently Lea Seydoux, a French actress)

https://youtu.be/Gu8X7vM3Avw?t=346 (three very short clips in succession, first Norman Reedus, next Lea Seydoux, and the third one an actress named Margaret Qualley, she doesn't have running tears but if you watch in HD and look closely, there seems to be a tear streak on her right cheek)

Here's a poster for the game as well, featuring Lea Seydoux, and there's a tear visible, though it's also CGI and not a real tear.

And this is a screenshot from the trailer of Margaret Qualley, and you could see a tear streak on her right cheek. Again, CGI and not real tears.

I hope other games follow this trend and game developers around the world work to perfect CGI tears and make them look perfectly realistic. That'd be cool. Would like to hear everyone's thoughts on this.

I also used to spend a lot of Time in video games, not much into zombies but the tears on your links look good enough.

Looking forward on more games that have tears.

P.S also looking forward to the next chapter of your fanfics.

I still play video games and I’m really excited about this one. I hope it’s not too hard.

Sekiro has been kicking my butt and I’m looking forward to playing something easier and more story-based.

I'm a woman and I think women are beautiful when they cry.

Actually, their skins look like plastic though, just like Barbie dolls, you know...they don't look like living beings but rather like artificial humans. Quite disappointing, in my opinion.

I've been following this game for a while now, and I was also intrigued by the tears. Didn't really share here because, well, like you say, the tears aren't realistic enough. But who knows, video game graphics have come a long way in the last few years, so in a few years, we'll have some really realistic CGI tears. Until then, I'll take real tears over CGI any day. And speaking of real tears, I found this nice gif of the actress in the second screenshot with a single tear running down her cheek.

Stunning beautiful face, deep blue eyes, they never filled with tears but when the tear slipped, it was a beautiful sight, I wish that hand that wiped her tear was mine. Thank you for posting it.

Re: Death Stranding - Video game where tears seem to play an integral role

I understand what you guys are saying about the characters and the tears just not looking realistic enough. I agree completely. Also, the biggest downside for me is that the characters' eyes don't fill up with tears. But hopefully, at the rate we're going, we get photorealistic graphics soon, and CGI tears will look just like real tears.

P. S. That's a good GIF. She's so pretty!
