Ding went off John's text as he was sitting at his desk at work. "Who could that be?" He wondered as he never got texts at work. "It must be really important." He thought again reaching into his pocket for his phone. He quickly pulled it out and pressed the button.
"1 missed text from Christina." It read. Curiously he quickly opened the message. "I'm feeling really sad right now and next time you see me I'm probably going to cry my eyes out and need you to hold me tight and give me a nice long warm hug." "Ok" He texted back not knowing what else to say.She wasn't usually one for openly sharing her feelings (that is if she shared them at all). He tried his best to focus his attention back on his work.
Meanwhile back at the house Christina was typing nervously on her phone. "I'm feeling really sad right now and next time you see me I'm probably going to cry my eyes out and I need you to hold me tight and give me a nice long warm hug." When she pressed send she couldn't help but wonder what his reaction would be.
She wasn't usually the type to share her feelings so openly usually preferring to handle them alone. This time was different however. Somehow she felt like she couldn't handle this alone.
All of a sudden her phone went ding. She quickly snapped out of her thoughts and checked her phone. It was a missed text. "1 missed text from John" it read. Nervously she pressed the button. Then she quickly opened the message. "Ok." Was all it said. She began to feel slightly relieved.
With that her eyes began to well with emotion. She couldn't get whatever was bothering her out of her head. She desperately tried to blink back the tears but that only sent a single thick tear rolling down her cheek from the middle of her left eye. She let out a sudden gasp surprised by her lack of composure and she quickly brought her left hand up to her eye and brushed the still falling tear off her cheek with the back of her hand.
She really didn't want to face this alone but somehow that meant she needed to wait for John to get home. Somehow she needed to control her emotions until then. She knew it wouldn't be easy but since she had already texted him she figured it'd be best to try and save every emotion for him.
She took a deep breath and stood up. She needed to get her mind off of what was bothering her. She slipped her phone back into her pocket and proceeded to her bedroom. Maybe a nap would do her good. As soon as her head hit the pillow she started drifting off.
She awoke in what seemed like 5min but as her eyes began to focus on her alarm she realized it had been nearly 2 hrs. With her mind fully awake she began recalling what she had drempt (She always rememberd her dreams. It was a joy yet a curse).
With that her eyes began to well up with emotion once again despite her disdain. Her dream really wasn't a pleasant one; it was more of a nightmare actually. The horrible situation just kept replaying in her dream and now she couldn't stop thinking about it.
Before she even knew what was happening her hands began to shake and her lip started to curl. She could feel her chest tighten and a lump forming in her throat. Just then she heard the front door open then close with a "BANG!" John must be home she thought trying to distract herself from her negative thoughts.
John quickly walked into the house slamming the door behind him. He threw off his coat and flung it on the nearest chair then threw his keys on the table. He really didn't care where they landed as his main concern was getting to Christina as fast as possible. All day he couldn't shake what he had read and he wondered what state he would find her in.
He then began quickly walking around the house sticking his head in and out of every room just to see where she could be. As soon as he stuck his head in the bedroom he immediately saw her sitting on the edge of the bed.
She barely saw John staring at her theough her blurry vision as she sat on the edge of the bed desperately trying to distract herself from her negative thoughts. It wasn't that she didn't want to cry it was just harder than she thought to open up as it wasn't something she was used to.
Next thing she knew she felt John sitting down gently on the edge of the bed. She didn't even remember him walking over. As soon as he sat down she she could feel him wrapping his arms around her shoulders. That was all it took. She could feel her walls come crumbling.
Tears immediately began to fall from her eyes. First one thick tear from the middle of her left eye then one thick tear from the middle of her right eye. They were warm as they began their decent down her cheeks. With that she couldn't hold it in any longer and her lip continued to curl; then her mouth opened up and she let out a loud almost gutwrenching sob.
As soon as John walked onto the bedroom he immediately saw Christina sitting in the edge of the bed. He could tell she was desperately trying not to cry. He wasn't too surprised as she wasn't one for openly sharing her emotions despite the fact that she said she was going to let herself cry.
He walked over to the bed and sat down gently trying not to distract her from her emotions. It seemed like she didn't even notice he was there so he immediately scooted closer to her then he gently wraped his arms around her shaking shoulders. With that he could feel her walls slowly crumbling.
He could see the tears that were already sparkling in her eyes begin to fall and run down her cheeks. First one thick tear from he middle of her left eye then one tear from the middle of her right eye. Next thing he knew he heard a gut wrenching sob escape her. He had never seen her like this before and it broke his heart.
Christina couldn't believe she was sobbing.it was a feeling she wasn't entirely used to. Instinctively she closed her mouth to muffle her sobs. Although it did feel good to have John's arms around her she was still a little nervous about opening up. "What am I doing? I know I said I would, but I just can't. What is John going to think of me?" Were the thoughts racing through her mind.
She took a jeep breath and tried to regain some form of composure. As soon as her body stopped shaking he released her shoulders from his arms. It was a quiet almost awkward silence as John sat behind her as her lip continued to quiver and a river of thick, hot tears never stopped falling from her eyes. This time the tears were falling from both the inner corners of her eyes as well as the outer corners along with the tears that were still falling from the middle.
After the hardest min of silence of her life she let out a tiny gasp as she felt John touching her shoulder ever so gently. Started she turned around to face him. As soon as her eyes locked with his he couldn't help but notice the sea of tears in her eyes and the river they were making as they were flowing down her cheeks.
It broke his heart. With that he couldn't take her pain any longer. He wanted to erase every trace of sadness she was feeling so he brought both his hands up to her eyes, cupped her face and began to wipe the river of tears from under her eyes with the pads of his thumbs.
To his surprise, and also hers, ahe didn't turn away, instead she slowly lifted her right hand up to his, placed it gently on top and guided his thumbs to where she wanted her tears wiped.
John couldn't believe his ears. Christina was finally sobbing. He held her shaking shoulders tight in his strong, loving arms. He just hated to see her like this although he was glad she came to him.
But just as soon as her sobbing started it seemed to stop. As soon as her body stopped shaking he released her shoulders from his arms. After a min of the longest silence of his life he decided to see how she was feeling.
"She couldn't have possibly stopped crying so quickly could she?" He wondered to himself before lifting his hand to touch her shoulder ever so gently. Startled she let out a gasp and turned around to face him. He quickly began scanning her body and face up and down to see how she looked.
As soon as his eyes reached her face he couldn't help but let out a little gasp. To his surprise, although quiet, he could see the sea of tears in her eyes and the river they were making as they were flowing down her cheeks. He even noticed her chin was still quivering. It broke his heart as he rarely (if ever) saw her like this."OMG!" Was all that kept running through his mind as he continued to stare at her face. It broke his heart to see her like this.
Before he knew it hot tears began to sting the back of both of his eyes. With that he couldn't take her pain any longer. As his eyes began to fill with tears of his own he nervously brought both his hands up to her eyes. He didn't want to scare her away but he felt he had to do something to ease her pain.
With that he slowly cupped her face in his hands. He then slowly and tenderly began to wipe the river of tears from under her eyes with the pads of his thumbs. With that he took a deep breath. As he slowly let it out a single thin tear escaped the inner corner of his left eye and started making its way down his face. He let out a small gasp but never removed his hands from her face.
To his surprise she didn't even notice his tear. She must have been too busy wrapped in her own emotions. He was glad for that as he didn't want to distract her from her own feelings or make her any further embarrassed, this time for making him cry.
Snapping out if his own thoughts he felt a hand gently touch his right hand still cupping her cheek. He immediately realized it wss her hand. She then began guiding his thumbs to where she wanted her tears wiped. As if almost instinctively he followed her lead without hesitation, somewhat surprised her happy she was being so forward.
Although initially worried about what John would think of her lack of composure as he rarely (if ever) saw her cry, she began to feel an overwhelming sense of release and comfort as he continued to wipe her tears. After a min of him delicately wiping her tears she could no longer hold it in. The hand that was on top of his guiding his to her tears began to tremble. Her lip finally did a proper curl and despite herself she let out a quiet almost breathy sob. She was startled but knew fighting it was a battle she wasn't going to win so she decided to let herself feel.
She let out another quiet almost breathy sob. The tears falling from her eyes began to flow faster. This time instead of him wiping every tear away a few made their way on top of his fingers. He could feel the thick, hot tears rolling down the back of his fingers tickling them on their way. Despite his initial shock he never removed his hands from her cheeks nor did she remove hers from on top of his.
He couldn't believe it. She was final!y setting herself feel. He began to feel an overwhelming sense of love and protection. He was desperately trying to ease her pain the best he could. This was almost a foreign concept to him a as he rarely (if ever) saw her cry. He wondered if she EVER did. Whatever the reason he loved being needed. She loved that she finally allowed herself to come to him.
All of a sudden he felt her hand that was on top of his begin to tremble. That snapped him out of his thoughts. Focusing back on her face he could finally see her lip do a proper curl. His heart began beating faster. "Were her walls really about to crumble?" He wondered to himself. He was just hoping that if they did she wouldn't turn away. He knew that she needed him more than ever and he hoped she knew that too.
All of a sudden he heard a quiet almost breathy sob. He had a hard time believing it was coming from her. She seemed startled herself but to his delite she didn't try to hold back. He heard another quiet almost breathy sob escape her and he could feel her tears begin to fall faster (if that was possible).
He tried to catch every tear as they made their way down her know soggy cheeks but their were just too many. His heart continued to break for her. He could only imagine what she was feeling. With that he could feel a lump forming in his throat. The tears that were still sparkling in his eyes were threatening to escape again.
He took a deep breath. Before he could even let it out he felt thick, hot tears begining to land on top of his fingers instead of under them. The tears began rolling down the back of his fingers tickling them as they rolled. That was all he needed. Another thin tear left his right eye and began it's quick decent down his cheek stopping halfway this time. Trying not to draw attention to himself he let the tear dry on his cheek.
Despite the initial shock of her tears on his hands and the lack of control of his own tears he never removed his hands from her cheeks knowing just how much she needed him; and she never removed her hands from on top of his as she knew she wasn't strong enough to face this alone nor did she want to.
After a min or two of her quiet sobs she could no longer muffle them and they began to slowly grow louder. As they grew her shoulders began to shake again. She didn't even bother to stop them this time. She was too exhausted from crying.
As her sobs continued to grow John finally removed his hands from her cheeks taking her hand away too (as it was on top of his). He then delicately set her hand down in her lap. Before she even noticed he brought both of his hands to her shaking shoulders, placed them on top and slowly pulled her towards him. To his surprise there was no resistance. He was almost sure she would have pulled away.
As if almost instinctively she laid her head on his shoulder (as he was much taller than her). Her sobs began to ring in his ear and her shoulders continued to shake to the point he was almost shaking too. She then felt him wrap his strong, caring arms around her still shaking shoulders.
With that her sobs turned into loud screams of "Why?!" In his ear in between each now ragged sob. It came to the point she was fighting for every breath as her lungs felt like they would explode from the intensity of her screaming and crying; but that never slowed her screams or cries.
After a couple min it seemed to John that Christina's sobs were beginning to get louder. He could also feel her shoulders start shaking again. To his surprise she didn't even try to control herself
He couldn't take in anymore so he delicately removed his hands from her cheeks, lifted her hand off his and slowly placed it on her lap. He was hoping she wouldn't notice. When she made no notion of his actions he quickly brought both of his hands to her shaking shoulders, placed them on top and slowly pulled her towards him. He was hoping he was doing the right thing and not about to scare her away.
With that he felt no resistance from her instead she laid her head on his shoulder (seeing as he was much taller than her). He could now hear her sobs echoing in his ear and feel her body shaking against his which in turn almost made his body start shaking too.He could almost instantly feel her thick, hot tears pooling in the crook of his neck then slowly becoming cooler as they began to drip down his chest leaving a thick tear streak behind.
At that point he couldn't help himself. He lifted both arms from her shoulders and wrapped them around her. He couldn't believe his ears. As soon as his arms were around her her sobs quickly turned into screams of "Why?!" In between each now ragged sob.
She couldn't believe she was finally openly sobbing so loud or so raw. But she couldn't stop it nor did she even try knowing it was a losing battle.
After about 10 of the longest min of her life her screams finally began to grow quiet. She took a deep breath trying to calm herself but her tears just kept pouring down her cheeks. Her cool tears were still running down John's chest when she felt him shiver. That made her lift her head off his shoulder.
She then started examining his neck and chest to see where her tears had fallen. Embarrassed to see she had left a giant wet spot behind on his neck where her tears had pooled and a thick tear streak behind on his chest where they had dripped she began to blush. She quickly put her head down hoping he wouldn't notice.
With that her tears stopped dripping down her cheeks and instead began falling directly from her eyes and onto his pants making a small, almost quarter size wet spot. After a min of her tears continuing to fall on his pants he finally removed his arms from around his shoulders.
Next thing she knew she felt a hand under her chin slowly lifting her head. Too embarrassed to even move she just let herself follow. She was hoping he wouldn't make any notion of the thick tears still dripping out of her eyes. As soon as her head was up her tears changed direction. They went right back down the previous thick streaks that were still stained on her cheeks.
Christina didn't believe she was still crying. She didn't know she could cry that long or that hard as it was rare for her to cry and even rarer for her to cry for an extended period. She was almost certain her tears would have dried up by now.
Admittedly she was starting to feel better. She was no longer thinking about anything negative that was bothering her. Instead she was thinking how good it felt to be comforted. Initially she did feel embarrassed but she couldn't help looking at John and feeling and overwhelming sense of comfort.
She took a deep breath and whispered "Thank you." Blshing slightly. "Anything to ease your pain." He said surprised to hear her say anything at all.
John couldn't believe Christina was still crying as it was rare for her to cry especially for any extended period of time. He was hoping she was starting to feel better. He was also thinking how lucky he felt that she finally trusted him enough to let her walls down and finally cry to him. He knew how hard it was for her to let go.
"Thank you." He finally heard her whisper snapping him out of his thoughts. Finally focusing back on her face he wasn't surprised to see her blushing. "Anything to ease your pain." He said softly as his eyes began to sparkle with newly forming tears.
For the next couple of min Christina just sat there with silent tears running down her cheeks. Some dripping off her chin, some stoping mid cheek and drying. These were not sad tears however, her sad tears had finally turned into tears of love and comfort. She felt an overwhelming sense of love in John's last words and she was finally letting them wash over her. It was a sensation she wasn't used to but one she finally realized she liked very much.
When her tears finally started to slow down she brought her right hand up to her right cheek and wiped her cheek with the back of her hand attempting to dry all the remaining damp tears that hadn't already dried. Before she could reach her left cheek she felt something warm brush her cheek. She could feel John's hand holding her left cheek and tenderly wiping the tears away from her eye with the pad of his thumb.
Before she knew it her eyes began to well up with emotion again. This time however, no tears fell, her eyes just began to sparkle with new unshed tears.
Finally focusing back on his face she could see him staring into her tear filled eyes. She noticed his eyes were also filled with sparkling unshed fears that he was desperately trying to hold back. It would have been too much for her to see him cry too due to her joy or pain. She hated to cry but she hated to make anyone else cry even more.
She could then feel him take a shaky breath as he said " I couldn't let such a strong woman take care of her own tears." With that a single thick tear fell from the middle of her left eye but before it could roll past an inch he tenderly brushed it away with the pad of his left thumb that was still wiping her cheek. Silenttly she hoped he'd never let her tears go unwiped again if she was ever brave enough to shed them.
After Joihn heard no response he just sat there with Christina in silence letting her tears continue their way down her cheeks creating multiple thick streaks on their way down. He was hoping these were no longer sad tears.
After a couple min he noticed her tears were beginning to slow down. He then saw her bring her right hand up to her right cheek and begin to wipe all the remaining tears away with the back of her hand. As if with instinct he brought his hand up to her left cheek before she could. He then began tenderly wiping her tears away from under her eye with the pad of his thumb. He couldn't let her wipe her own tears. What kind of husband would he be if he couldn't comfort her he thought.
As he began focusing back on her face he noticed her eyes begin to fill up again with new sparkling tears. He was surprised however, that they didn't fall this time. He could see his reflection in her tears and saw his eyes filling with his own sparkling tears which he refused to let fall. He didn't want her to see him cry as he didn't want her to take any focus away from her own emotions.
He then took a deep shaky breath and forced out some choked up words. "I couldn't let such a strong woman take care of her own tears." With that he noticed a single thick tear escape the middle of her left eye. He couldn't help but use the pad of his left thumb that was still wiping her cheek to tenderly brush it away. He then made a silent vow to never let another tear of hers go unwiped if she was ever brave enough to let them fall again.
