Have you heard about Whump lists?
I found that on tumblr. And they describe the emotions the protagonists are in.

Here is the list of Joel Kinnaman, where you can find, in each film or series he cried:

Yes! I found the Whumpapedia sometime in the last couple years and it's pointed me to some nice male crying scenes (it seems mostly focused on male whump). I search for 'cry', 'sob' and 'tears', as all three terms are used.

What's whump?

From the whumpapedia.fandom site:
Whump is defined differently by each individual, but the general consensus is that it is a fandom term used to describe situations where a fictional character is hurt, be it emotionally or physically.
Seeing our favorite characters cry is a form of emotional whump, also sometimes called hurt/comfort if there's comforting.
History of the last 50 years of whump discourse in fandom:

Thanks for these links
"vulnerability is alluring"
I think that sums it up pretty well, for me at least 🙂
Also this quote about whumperflies "can best be described as a fluttery tightness in one’s stomach and chest similar to the sensation of having figurative butterflies in one’s stomach as a result of an anxiety-induced adrenaline rush"
All my life I've experienced this feeling particularly when I see crying unexpectedly, or when a crying scene is especially realistic or very intense. An actual physical sensation, so weird

Well that's definitely a new word. Sounds like silent dr. Seuss would say
