I've been noticing a few interesting details in my husband's crying recently, in addition to the usual ones (the sounds, the lip curl, the tears, the tensed stomach).
His sobs are always extremely rapid - I've noticed this since the very first time I saw him cry - which makes his stomach convulsions extremely hot, and they shake his whole body. But I notice two other things: his nostrils flare rhythmically while he sobs, and his Adam's apple bobs rhythmically. I've tried to notice these things in videos of other people crying, and I guess I see them sometimes but not always.
Anyway, I find them very hot, especially the Adam's apple bobbing. Somehow it highlights the lack of control and the tension/release aspects of sobbing.
Anyone else notice these? Or other less-discussed details?

Honestly no, at least my wife doesn't have any of those signs, and I seldom have male obs, what I see in my wife when she is about to cry, is her face becomes sad, her eyes start to fill with tears, if it is intense, her lips slowly become a curl (and her eyes fill faster), if she sobs, that is the last sign, and that is not part of the pre cry build up, she usually starts to cry, then she sobs, sometimes silently, rarely her body trembles, and more rarely, loudly. Well, her standard cry, to say in a way, after the signs that she will inevitably cry show up, the tears in her eyes start to overflow (depending on the intensity is the volume and size of her tears), sometimes she will cry silently, expressionless, with small tears that leave small trails on her cheeks, sometimes all her tears follow the same path, some other times a couple of streaks are left by her tears.
When the crying is intense a waterfall of tears flows constantly from her eyes, unable to follow a single path because of the volume, and usually the tears are bigger, thus, leaving thicker streaks, seldom are the tears so many that individual streaks are no longer visible (though it has happened). I find her tear streakd face stunningly hot, that is why I usually try to guess when she reaches the mid point in crying (she has been crying and is not stopping soon) before I wipe her tears, I love kissing her tears as they roll down her cheeks, I also love feeling them in my fingers, so I kiss some of her tears, I wipe some, when the crying fit eventually ends I kiss a tear streak and wipe the rest of her tear streaks with my hands.
I hope this is what you referred to, don't want to hijack your thread . Thanks a lot for posting, have a wonderful weekend.

I definitely sometimes will stare at my husband's face for longer than necessary before I go to wipe his tears or pull his face to my chest, and I will sometimes pull back while he's sobbing to see his face. Otherwise I will only ever see the pre-crying and never the full-on sobbing. Also, if he's crying for a less intense reason (movie or whatever), he'll purposefully show me his face while he's doing a lip curl or while tears are falling.

I usually notice the details when two people are crying in front of me and I can compare them and see differences in how they're crying. Or when someone cries in a different way than usual. My wife's mother is quarantining with us at the moment and the two of them have cried together over the past several weeks, and seeing the similarities and differences between them has made me notice the details a lot more than usual.

Any obs you would like to share as an example?

One thing I have thought about was the sound of someone's sobbing. I remember a girl I dated back in college had a very recognizable sobbing sound, kind of like "ghee-hee-hee-hee." Others have had more of a wailing sound.
