Billy Crudup plays a young politician who has begun seeing glimpses of his long-presumed-dead girlfriend around town. In this first scene, he receives a phone call from her. His stage actor abilities are on display here, as he goes from normal to devastated in one long three-and-a-half minute take. (Jennifer Connelly as the girlfriend was actually on the other end of the phone with him in real time, adding to the emotion):
In this scene, he confesses to his family that he thinks he is losing his mind. Again, he goes from zero to meltdown in under three minutes in another long take (there are cutaways to the other actors, but he was filmed in one shot):
This is a truly beautiful film that not enough people have seen, and Billy Crudup is a woefully underrated actor.
