Lip curled?: Yes, prominently
Open mouthed?
Offline
Yes open mouthed, because she was talking between sobs. This is why we can't go to movie theaters.

Ah...did the lip stay curled when she was sobbing and not talking?
Offline
Yes, when the sad climax of the movie surprised her, she covered her eyes and sobbed with an open-mouthed, chin-wrinkling lip curl for 15-20 seconds. The majority of the time was her shedding tears, talking and reacting vocally. At the very beginning of the cry she pressed her lips together in a way that the bottom lip bulged and the chin wrinkled, but it wasn't quite a lip curl.

Wife
Date: 06/11/14
Time: 19.00
Duration: 2-3 minutes
Reason for Crying: Saying goodbye to my parents as we move away
Location: Airport
Crying Intensity: Sniffing, crumpled up face, tears flowing
Reaction to Tears: Tears down unchecked. My wife can shed some huge teardrops, which kept on going. She wiped them as we entered the departure gate. Even while she was wiping them more large tears kept dropping down.
Lip curled?: No, she kept her mouth closed but her chin wobbled
People Present: Me, my parents
Comments: Hugged and comforted by both of my parents

^ I have to say that sounds really sweet.
Date: 30 November 2014
Time: 22:00
Duration: 3 minutes
Reason for Crying: Shaken up after a car accident. The guy who hit me was huge, uncooperative, and was blaming me. He also had two kids in the car so I felt even worse. Thankfully my brother-in-law was there, nobody got hurt, and the police took my side.
Location: Gas station parking lot, then car
Crying Intensity: Tears in eyes while talking with the cop. Once we got back into the car, I sobbed a little.
Reaction to Tears: Wiped from cheeks with hands
People Present: brother in law, police officer
Lip curled?: It must have, but, full disclosure...I covered my mouth. My brother-in-law absolutely hates it when adults sob. He calls it "crying like a baby." It was five or six quiet sobs, and I clamped my hand over my mouth and turned away from him, just to make sure.
Wife Obs:
Date: 3 December 2014
Time: 00:00
Duration: 2 minutes
Location: Home
Reason for Crying: Sad after an argument, worried about some stuff.
Crying Intensity: Three tears from each eye
Reaction to Tears: Her head was against my chest, so the tears from her left eye ended up on my blouse. One tear from her right eye went close to her lips so she licked it away. The next two tears fell from the outer corner of her eye down the side of her right cheek and I wiped them with my thumb.
Lip curled?: Mildly, closed-mouthed without talking.

Wife:
Date: 5 December 2014
Time: 11:00
Duration: 5 - 10 minutes
Location: Home
Reason for Crying: Current financial worries
Crying Intensity: Tears flowing, sniffing, close to sobbing
Reaction to Tears: Mostly wiped them; first with hand and then with a tissue. Her face was turned away from me since she was mad at me at the time. But she looked towards me at one point and a large tear drop rolled down her left eye to her chin. Like I said, she drips like a faucet and finds it very hard to wipe all the tears. She spent most of her crying time facing away from me.
Lip curled?: When I saw her face, her bottom lip jerked outwards twice with her mouth open, pulling her chin upwards. It was an exaggerated version of a trembling lip.

Date: Yesterday
Time: I don't really remember, it was about 9pm I guess.
Duration: maybe 15-30 seconds?
Reason for Crying: I was reading a New York Times article about how grief and it made me sad/moved.
Location: Home, on the couch.
Crying Intensity: It was only one tear, maybe two. It wasn't really proper crying.
Reation to Tears: I let them sit there for a moment and then I wiped the tracks away with my fingers and sniffled a lot. I'm a snotty crier (Le sigh) so even two tears gets my nose running annoyingly. I was trying to keep it back because I didn't have any tissue within arms reach, but it dripped and I thought, screw it, and wiped my nose on my shirt sleeve. I didn't even try to be delicate about it, I just wiped it all away. It actually felt really good. If I were a cute boy I'd be in love with myself, haha...
Lip curled?: No. I am not a lip curler. If I do actually cry, I'm a "smily" crier, mouth curling up.
People Present: Alone.

For completeness's sake:
Wife and myself:
Date: 13 December 2014
Time: 22:00
Duration: 2 minutes
Location: Home
Reason for Crying: Movie.
Crying Intensity: Me: 3-4 tears down face Her: Initially one flawless tear fell down her left cheek as she was starting to realize that a character might die. Then she regained her composure, and then we got to the end of the movie and she started sobbing.
Reaction to Tears: I let them fall unchecked. She wiped that first tear from her lower cheek with her thumb. When she started sobbing she wiped the tears using tissues. It was cold, we were eating ice cream and crying so our noses ran more than usual. A disproportionate number of tissues were used.
Lip Curled?: Me: No Her: Yes, intense. The spoon was in her mouth as she started to cry hard and her teeth were lightly biting the tip of the spoon as she sobbed. I think this lip curl was more funny than hot.
People Present: Just us
