General Hospital - Jason Thompson

I don't usually watch soap operas, but after getting exposed to some of them from this forum's posts, I found that crying scenes from soap operas are often very good. Like ABC's General Hospital.

This scene made me teary eyed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAWESPgtPQc (Patrick getting ready to attend his wife's funeral). Jason Thompson did a really good job!

Also in these scenes (the crying scenes are constantly happening from start to finish of each video):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zipnrh8atLA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAu9nWHlQKY (starting from 12'20" is very heartbreaking -- when he tells his daughter Emma that her mom has died)

And these (from start to finish as well):

The way his eyes keep watering and tears keep falling during those long scenes reminds me of Josh Charles in "In Treatment". And his broken voice makes the crying very real & heartbreaking.

I'm sure there are more scenes, I just haven't browsed for more..
And apparently he has so many crying scenes in General Hospital, that there's a discussion about it on the official website: http://mb.abc.go.com/discussions/General_Hospital/Discussions/I_really_want_to_know_if_Jason_Thompson_aka_Patrick_is_SICK_OF_CRYING/abc0000d4/11869.1?redirCnt=1&nav=messages

Re: General Hospital - Jason Thompson

thx sakura, yes, they are crying a lot in daily soaps, but since they have a different narrative structure than movies, it makes them interesting. you never get those extended scenes in a movie...

Thanks Sakura, those clips are really awsome. The scene where he tells the girl about the death of her mother is almost unbearable too watch. I think it's the closest to reality we can get. This is what i like about some soaps actors, that there're crying is not as soapy as you may think. There's a serious, very engaging thing about being able to see those bits of sad moments in a person's life, having the possibility to empathize from afar..

I find it interesting how silent he suffers. He is really in distress but he doesn't break down completely, not even when he is alone.
