intense male crying (obs)

Today I met a friend of mine, yes I would consider him a friend even if he is much older than I am. He is the boss of my mother in law and he helped us a lot with our office building. He has a very big heart for almost everybody, is very busy with his job, family and is also active in politics. I considered him a strong personality, firm as a rock. How  wrong someone can be!
Today he sat down opposite me, he was very nervous and said he had to tell me something. He had to wait for some seconds until he could go on talking. His blue eyes were full of tears and he blinked like mad to prevent them from falling down his cheeks. When he told me his problem (I won't tell you what the matter was because it is too personal), he repeated covering his eyes with the palm of his hands. Just some tears flew down his cheeks in a time of about 15 minutes, he didn't wipe them but he did cover the eyes with the "heel" of the hand over and over to prevent them from falling. His crying fits came and went, he always managed to recollect his composure but went on crying a few seconds afterwards. His voice was rough, sometimes you could hear and see the sobbing. He didn't blow his nose and he didn't have a lipcurl.
When he left he begged me not to tell anyone about his problem and apologized for the crying.  He wiped his eyes once more before he opened the door and left the room we were sitting in. He said good bye to the rest of the crew I wouldn't have heard a single tear in his voice if I hadn't witnessed the scene just before.
