Guys guys guys! It just occurred to me that this is the perfect place to share some theatre obs!
When Talk Radio had its just-off-Broadway revival a few years back, I got to see it twice, the second time sitting in like the second row. At the end of the play, Liev Schreiber's emotionally-repressed shock-jock main character briefly cries. I repeat, I got to see (and hear) this in person, close to the stage.
Liev's crying does a number on me, I swear to the crying gods.
(Also starring Stephanie March, fondly known in my house as That Bitch From SVU, and a pre-fame two-scene-wonder Sebastian Stan. I have been following his career ever since.)
Also, a few friends of mine starred in a local production of an emotionally-charged musical a couple years ago. I saw two of them cry onstage: a guy, a girl. She had the most beautiful sniffles. He had the crumpled face, the breaking voice, shouting to the heavens with tears in his voice and his eyes like he had no concept of any taboo on men crying. He would do this in rehearsals too, gave it his all every time. And afterward he'd do that casually wiping his face with the crook of his arm thing, like he could turn on and off the emotions as needed. Amazing.
