"Catch a Falling Star" is my favorite episode from the 1980's TV series Highway to Heaven.  (Actually, the series was a treasure trove of crying scenes, many of them involving the late Michael Landon, who played Jonathan, the angel.)  The episode features Daniel Davis as a neglectful, movie star father who finally confronts his young son and reconciles with him; the high point of the scene has Davis' character breaking into tears.  Go to 38:40 in the video to reach the relevant scene:
