i love how utterly broken he sounds at the end. Very cathartic, like his character is finally letting himself/able to feel for the first time in years.

It's been a couple of years since I've seen it and it's not currently on Youtube, but Michael Fassbender was in an episode of Agatha Christie's Poirot entitled "After the Funeral." The opening scene takes place at a funeral, and I seem to remember that Michael's character was in tears during the scene. Is anyone else familiar with the episode I'm referring to?

I haven't seen the episode, but I was happy to find that it is available on Netflix (Series 10, Episode 3). I'll take a look at it soon and report back.

He was in WHAT?! This had better be true. My favorite Belgian and my favorite android (hello David8) together in the same production?

It's true! We just have to locate the episode. By the way, it's nice to hear that you're a Poirot fan, too.

I took a look at that Poirot episode on Netflix -- I haven't had time to sit down and watch the whole thing yet.
Michael Fassbender does cry right at the beginning, and in exactly the way that I like -- big tears, red wet eyes. It's not an extended scene, more of a brief shot. I found a decent GIF of it, which I'll post in the images section, and I'll try to capture some screenshots if I can.
There's another scene near that end, where he has a tear track down his cheek, but you don't really see him cry.
In the episode, he plays a drunken, rakish relative of the murdered character and spends a lot of time looking vaguely dissolute, vulnerable, and very handsome.

I found another source for watching Shame, since the first link wouldn't load for me.
(Trigger warning for self-harm)
At 1:30 mins he flips out at discovering his sister has attempted suicide. There is no sound but piano but I'm pretty sure we can see him shaking as he cradles her unconscious bloody body.
(end trigger warning)
At 1:33 he's out for a run and collapses on the pavement crying.
