I am not usually a fan of older gentlemen crying - but John Bowe does so brilliantly in these scenes. He has the wracking, loud body sobs that I adore. Enjoy.
Lawrence has had an affair with Ronnie - the bearded gentleman in both scenes - yet he is still denying he is gay. In the first scene, he tells Ronnie about his "aversion therapy" to "cure" him of his being gay. This falls under two men comforting each other, as well, as Ronnie does his best to help. In the second, Lawrence has been outed and chases Ronnie off after his wife has left him and he has kicked his daughter and grandson out - he feels he has nothing left.

I don't understand how he was just now outed, because I thought everyone already knew he was gay

Yeah, I know. Ronnie screamed that they were lovers to Chrissy in the Woolpack, in front of everyone. They just made Aaron talk with him, to get him to accept being gay, but no dice. I guess they are really going for the older man discovering himself storyline now. Either way, these were quite powerful performances by John Bowe.
