Crying Discussion » Do you remember your first time? » June 21, 2024 9:28 am |
I have two memories but I'm not sure which one comes first - I think I would be about 6 or 7 years old.
The first memory is at school - a girl in my class fell in the playground and started crying. I clearly remember her big brown eyes swimming in tears and large tears rolling down her cheeks. I was instantly attracted to her - I ran to help her and put my arm around her to comfort her - something I'd never consider doing until that point. I feel like I instantly feel in love with her! I would say it was also the first time I noticed that girls can be very beautiful. I also remember that it had a physical reaction - which felt kinda nice!
My other memory is of an aunt of mine - she was a very glamourous woman and the older I got the more attractive I found her. Around the same time frame as above I remember she was crying about something - no idea what. She was sobbing gently and tears were running freely down her cheeks - I was mesmerised - I remember just staring at her. This may have been the first time I saw an adult cry - I didn't know adults could cry and shed tears. But I remember thinking her tears looked nice to look at.
There are many other later events that cemented my love of tears but these I think are the first.

That is a really nice obs - unfortunate you didn't get to see any tears rolling down her cheeks.
But holding her as she cried would have been a bit special. Feeling their body shake and stomach muscle bounce in time to sobs is an incredible experience.
But for me the gold standard is when a part of their body a little higher than their stomach shakes and bounces!

Interesting questionnaire. So much of it relates to my distant past that it was hard to know how to answer some of the questions.
Yes, it can be difficult to remember for some people - I had someone in their 80's complete the questionnaire and it was a challenge to remember when they saw their parents cry as they passed away about 30 years ago!
Thank you so much for completing it.
To everyone, please feel free to share the link to anyone you feel you can ask to complete this - the more responses I get the better the stats will be.

O...K...
That scared me. I thought I was the only one. That said, no experience is individual.
It mainly happens when I'm thinking about a time I cried or saw someone cry.
That's interesting - you think about crying and you get this sensation - phantom tears! I have also experienced this but it was many years ago now and I thought it was just facial nerves being stimulated for some reason.
It might not be your actual facial nerves being triggered - it could be at the other end of the nerve connection - in your brain basically! I'm no expert but perhaps you thought about crying and your brain triggered the nerve endpoints to make you think tears were flowing down your cheeks.
I've experienced the opposite - tears actually running down my cheeks that I don't feel. This happens most often on cold, windy days when my eyes water and because my face is so cold I don't feel the tears on my cheeks. I have talked to people in the past and not realised my face is streaked with tears! Bit awkward as I look like I'm crying when I'm not.
Although, once when receiving tragic news many years ago I was so focused on getting information from the medical person in front of me I hadn't realised I had started to cry. It was only when a tear dripped off my face onto my hand that I realised I was looking straight at the woman as tears rolled down my cheeks.

As many of you will know I'm interested in the science of crying and finding out more about what makes people cry and how often they cry. To this end I have a fairly comprehensive questionnaire which I'd be hugely grateful if folks on this forum would consider completing.
It is big and will take a bit of time to complete - roughly 30 minutes or so - but you can save and return so you don't need to do it in one sitting.
The URL is - www.surveyhero.com/c/crying
It is completely confidential - if you are comfortable doing so however I'd be grateful if you would consider adding your forum username in the last section. It would be interesting for me to tie up the responses to posts you have made on the forum in the past.
Huge thanks in advance for your help - it's very much appreciated - any questions fire away, Once I get enough responses I'll be sure to share some of the statistics that emerge. I will not share any personal or individual information from individual responses.

Thanks for answering my many questions. I should have qualified my last statement.
There is a theory each generation on males is crying more frequently and more open than the generation before. It's a generalisation of course and there will be many exceptions to this theory. Regardless of the average frequency (I'll pick up on that in a second) and statistically speaking your generation will cry more than my generation (I'm over twice your age!) and my generation cries more than my father's generation. The theory hypotheses that male crying changed dramatically during the world wars when men had to be stoic - stiff upper lip and all that - and it's taking several generations to revert back to the way male crying was pre the world wars. Just a theory of course - other may agree to disagree.
The issue with the 1.3 times per month - I think I saw 1.6 times per month for men and 4.4 times for females - is what do they consider as crying. These higher frequencies may count tears in a persons eyes - a momentary flash of emotion. Where as most people would consider tears in eyes as being a bit emotional, or moved. It would be interesting to see figures where to count as crying a tear had to leave a persons eyes. I would bet it would be closer to your once every 2-3 months average. And as you point out you may have periods when you cry several times in quick succession and then nothing for 6+ months.
Can be an interesting discussion point...
I've put together a lengthy crying questionnaire to try and get better stats - I'll post a link in another thread.

Were you aware your tears were visible on your cheeks with this work colleague? Did you feel embarrassed that you were crying at work and felt the need to wipe your tears away?
I've always been amazed that my Wife (a good number of years ago when we worked together) would cry openly at work with tears visibly rolling freely down her cheeks. While for me crying at work is the worst thing ever! My tears come easily when I cry so they are difficult to hide but I would always frantically try to hide tears crying in a work environment through crippling embarrassment. An yet - in front of the right people - I have no problem allowing tears to flow freely.

Thanks!
There are some people (close friends) I trust enough to cry in front of, it doesn't happen that often, but it has happened.
My ex has wiped my tears - it is something I would like to experience in a future romantic relationship.
Welcome to the forum - I hope you enjoy it here.
Few questions - if you are ok to answer - you mention you'd like a partner to wipe your tears in a future romantic relationship - do you feel as well as seeing a partners tears, them wiping your tears is of a sexual nature for you?
Have you cried in front of females only or both females and males? Do you allow your tears to roll down your cheeks for everyone of only a select special few?
There is a view that younger males cry more frequently and are more open about crying and more open about crying in front of others - would you say this is true for you? Have you seen other male friends cry?
Sorry, to many questions...

Thank you for this video, I am addicted of handsome and cute guys crying<3 He starts crying several times during the video, I love him lips curving, chin trembling and voice changing. Added to my favorites
I'm also into watching guys cry - female crying is definitely my go to place but as with female crying if the male is shedding tears and allowing those tears to spill down his cheeks I'm all over it.
Tears are 100% my thing and when you think about it male and female tears at a basic level are very similar.
Here's one of my personal guy crying favourites... Alexander can't hold his tears when he sees his dad - BB Denmark - Big Brother Universe (youtube.com)
